1. Don't overwork your smartphone battery. While draining it empty before powering it up is indeed more convenient, repeated heavy discharges are detrimental to its performance and health.
2. Which brings us to this tip: Charge nightly. Keep it in the 80-percent range preferably. Contrary to what other people have told you, charging your smartphone's lithium-ion cell—even if it has 50 percent of power left—should lengthen its lifespan. Remember that having more juice on your device before charging means less work for the battery.
3. We don't recommend charging your battery all the way to 100 percent and leaving it fully charged overnight, as it will only degrade the cell's health.
4. That said, we do recommend topping up your battery from zero to full once a month for calibration. That is, to make sure your cell's readout stays accurate. Giving your battery a full recharge every once in a while keeps it in top shape.
5. If you plan on going out of the country and leaving your phone behind for days, be sure to store it in a cool, dry place. Also, leave at least 40 percent of juice on your device to avoid fully discharging it.
6. Only use the wall charger and cable that came with your unit, as the voltage on your charger is sure to match the voltage supported by your device. If the voltage is too high, you run the risk of damaging your phone's components.
